Cajon / darbuka / Djembe
The Core Foundation (Technique & Theory): We won't leave you guessing. We'll start with the essential basics: proper posture to protect your back, hand placement for clean sounds, and a quick, easy-to-understand breakdown of time signatures and counting so you can read the rhythm roadmap.
The Dynamic Duo (Bass & Slap): Once you understand the count, we'll dive into tone production. You’ll learn how to pull a deep, resonant bass and a sharp, crisp slap out of the box—the two primary sounds that unlock 80% of popular music.
Subdivisions & Timing: This is where the magic happens. We will apply basic rhythm theory to practical exercises, learning how to steady your internal metronome and coordinate your hands to fill the spaces between the beats smoothly.
The Collective Groove: Putting theory into practice! By the end of the session, we will bring our understanding of time keeping together, locking in as a structured, multi-layered rhythm section to play a full track together.
Syllabus & Growth: For those who want to build on this theoretical and practical foundation, we'll take a brief look at how these fundamental skills align with formal percussion and rhythm syllabus paths.
No Background? No Problem.
Whether you have never counted a beat in your life or you're looking to solidify your timing, this workshop bridges the gap between understanding rhythm and feeling it. Come ready to learn, listen, and groove!
