What kids will learn
- Teaching Approach and Curriculum
- I teach Hindustani classical vocal music to students aged 5+ , following the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya syllabus through to Sangeet Visharad. Instruction is structured in three progressive levels.
- Base Level: Students are introduced to the fundamentals: notes (swaras), rhythm, and alankars, along with a first introduction to raagas and bandishes. Songs and semi-classical compositions are included to keep learning joyful and engaging from the start.
- Intermediate Level: Students take a deeper dive into raagas and their individual character, and begin developing aalaps, taans, and the basic techniques of bandish improvisation. They also learn more advanced taals such as Teentaal, Ektaal, and Jhaptaal.
- Advanced Level: Students refine their understanding of raag character and develop advanced improvisation in both Bada Khayal and Chhota Khayal. They also work with vilambit taals such as Vilambit Ektaal, Jhoomra, and Tilwada.
- For children growing up outside India, music offers an added benefit: through bandishes, songs, and compositions, they naturally connect with Indian languages and culture, learning the language through music.
